Support Resources
MetroSouth Medical Center has identified Community Support Groups to help patients and their families with resources once they leave the hospital.
Stroke Support Group
MetroSouth MedicalCenter hosts a support group every other month for patients and community members who have survived a stroke. The group is held from 3:00p.m. - 4:30p.m. and focuses on education regarding rehabilitation and lifestyle issues. Each group features a different professional speaker and covers a wide range of stroke-related issues. There is a suggested donation of one dollar to continue to fund various speakers each month. For additional information, contact MetroSouth Community Relations at 708- 489-7926.
Hospice Memorial Service
The MetroSouth Medical Center Hospice Department holds a biannual memorial service at MetroSouth Medical Center to help families who have lost a loved one. This memorial service provides a space where families can come and celebrate the lives of their loved ones through stories, the sharing of memories, and through community support. Participants are given an opportunity to speak about a memory they have about their loved one and are provided with a loaf of bread to take home and share with their family as a symbol of sharing memories of their loved one. For additional information, contact the Hospice Chaplain at 708-385-0372.
Myasthenia Gravis Foundation
The Myasthenia Gravis Foundation holds a number of support groups throughout the State of Illinois for individuals who suffer from this neuromuscular disease that impacts the communication between the nerves and the muscles in the body. MetroSouth Medical Center hosts this support group four times a year. The support group consists of discussion of symptoms along with treatment options and support from others living with this disease. Educational videos are shown to update participants on medical advancements, medications and how to manage those medications.
